What is an Escape Room?

An Escape Room is an interactive live-action game set in an immersive themed environment. Groups of 2 to 8 people (family, friends or colleagues) work together to unlock hidden objects, search for clues, solve puzzles, and decipher codes to complete a specific Mission or Quest in order to escape before time runs out!

Is my game a private experience?

Yes, your game is a private experience which means you’ll never play with people you don’t know! All reservations only require a $50 deposit to guarantee your choice of game, date, and time. We are the only escape room in the area offering private reservations with only a 2-person minimum. You can add more people at the door when you arrive (up to the room maximum of 10 people).
If you have 11-20 people in your group, you can reserve two escape rooms that start at the same time. If you need any assistance with booking your escape experience, please reach out to us at info@ultimatexscaperooms.com or (908) 685-0382. 

A deposit of only $50 reserves the escape room exclusively for your group! 

How can I book a game?

It’s easy to book your private escape room experience! Simply click on the BOOK NOW button to view availability of our weekend games (Friday 4pm through Sunday evening) and book your experience via our secure online reservation system. We accept all major credit cards: Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover. (We are a cashless venue.)
Booking in advance is highly recommended to guarantee your first choice of room theme, date and time slot. Walk-in groups are accommodated based on availability. Please reach out to our team at 908-685-0382 if you need assistance with the booking process or have specific questions not found on our FAQ page.

Can I add more people to my booked game?

  • Your escape game is a private experience for your group only. When you reserve the room online, it will close out and show as “full” but you can add more people at the door when you arrive (up to the game maximum of 10 people).
  • Groups of 11-20 people can reserve two escape rooms that are offered at the same start time as shown on our online reservation calendar. We have a set schedule on weekends (Friday 4pm through Sunday evening) and are unable to accommodate custom start times.
  • Groups of 21+ people, please email or call us in advance to discuss additional scheduling options so we can best accommodate your group. 

Are there any age restrictions?

Our escape games are designed with older teens (16+) and adults in mind. Children who are at least 10 years of age may participate, but please be aware that many of the puzzles may be too challenging for them. An adult (18+) is required to participate with anyone who is under age 16. For safety and liability reasons, children under 10 are not permitted inside the rooms.

Do I need a reservation?

We recommend booking your private game experience (Friday, Saturday & Sunday games) using our secure online reservation system. A deposit of only $50 guarantees your choice of game, date and time exclusively for your group. If you arrive without a reservation, it’s very possible that a room will not be available. Weekday team building events cannot be booked online – please reach out to Kimberly at info@ultimatexscaperooms.com.

Will we actually be *locked* inside a room?!

No! You will never actually be locked into any of our escape rooms. In order to escape and “win,” your team will need to work together to complete a specific mission or quest. You can exit the game at any time, if necessary, or in the case of an emergency. 

Is your venue handicapped accessible?

Absolutely! We take great pride in ensuring that our venue is inclusive and accessible to guests who use canes, walkers, manual and electric wheelchairs or other assistive devices. Please note, however, that larger motorized scooters (ECVs) cannot be accommodated. We have a private elevator that runs between our street-level lobby entrance and our second floor where our reception area and escape rooms are located. Our restrooms are ADA-compliant and fully handicapped accessible. There are four designated handicapped parking spots across the street from our building.

How can I book a birthday celebration?

WE WOULD LOVE TO HOST YOUR BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION – YOUR GROUP OF ADULTS ONLY OR KIDS WILL HAVE A MEMORABLE TIME IN OUR GAMES! HERE ARE THE IMPORTANT DETAILS:

  • We recommend that all guests are at least twelve (12) years old for kids’ birthday groups.
    This is because the majority of the participants will be children and many of the puzzles can be challenging for children younger than 12.
  • Children under age 16 must be accompanied in the room by a participating adult (18+). 
  • If you do not have a confirmed guest headcount yet, no worries! We only require a $50 deposit to guarantee your preferred game, day, and time! All our rooms are private experiences for your group only. Additional guests can be added at the door up to the game maximum. You can conveniently book your private game experience through our secure online booking software (showing real-time availability). Simply visit the BOOK NOW page by clicking on the button or using the navigation menu.
  • If you have a group of 11-20 people, you can reserve two rooms that are offered at the same start time as shown on our online reservation calendar. 
  • Food and drinks are not permitted at our venue, but we are centrally located in Downtown Somerville just 1-3 blocks away from an incredible variety of dining options! (Check out the “Can you recommend a place to eat nearby?” FAQ.)

How can I book a weekday team building event?

We host private team building events on weekdays for large corporations, small- and medium-sized businesses, non-profit organizations, affinity/networking groups, and clubs by advance reservation only. These custom events are scheduled directly with our Events Manager and cannot be booked online. We will do our best to accommodate your preferred event date and time (subject to availability). Our immersive, interactive game rooms offer a unique (and fun!) challenge for your team and encourage cooperation, communication and collaboration among colleagues, helping to establish or solidify work relationships. We have hosted team building events for Johnson & Johnson, Home Depot, ExxonMobil, Merck & Co, Sanofi, Chubb, Hackensack Meridian Health, Rutgers University, and many others.

 

How early should I arrive for my game?

Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before the start time of your reservation to check in, sign waivers, use the restroom, hang up coats, etc. 

We strongly recommend allowing ample time for traffic and parking. Your live game will begin at the time you booked. Latecomers may have less than the full 60 minutes of active game time inside the room. Click here for details on the closest parking to our venue. Your booking confirmation email will also contain a link to parking and our location.

How can I reschedule my game if plans change?

You can reschedule your game up to 24 hours before the start time of your original reservation.

Within 24 hours of the start time of your original reservation, there is a $50 fee (equal to the original deposit amount) to reschedule to a new date and/or time per game.

 

What if I need to cancel my booked game?

Standard Rescheduling & Cancellation Policy: We understand that plans can change, so reservations can be modified or cancelled up to 24 hours before the start time of your original reservation. We will issue you a Store Credit, to the same name and email address on your reservation, for the deposit amount you already paid. The Store Credit does not expire and can be applied to a future escape room booking. If you choose to reschedule your game to a new date and/or time, you can do so up to 24 hours before the start time of your original reservation. Within 24 hours, reschedules and cancellations will incur a $50 fee (i.e., the deposit amount is forfeited). All sales are final.

Team Building Events (weekdays): We have a separate rescheduling & cancellation policy for team building events which is different from our standard policy. Weekday team events require a minimum rescheduling or cancellation notice of 5 (five) business days before the start time of the original reservation for your event.

Where can I park?

Parking in Downtown Somerville

For shorter visits of 1-3 hours, we recommend the metered, on-street parking: 

  • Payment Accepted: Coins, Credit Card
  • Minimum Park Time: 3 minutes
  • Credit Card Minimum: 1 hour
  • Maximum Stay: 3 hours
  • Rate: $1.00/hour
  • Availability can be very limited, particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings
For longer visits of 3+ hours, we recommend using one of the 4 primary municipal parking lots. All are enforced Monday-Saturday from 9:00am to 8:00pm (except for Lot 7 which is free on Saturdays):
      • Payment Accepted: Coins, Bills, Credit Card
      • Minimum Park Time: 15 minutes
      • Credit Card Minimum: 1 hour
      • Maximum Stay: Pre-paid, you decide!
      • Rates: $.50 – $1.00/hour

Nearest Handicapped Parking:

  • There are 4 designated Handicapped Parking spots in the small lot across Main Street from our building. Please be sure you have a valid disabled license plate or a valid (unexpired) hang tag if parking in one of these spots.

Can we bring food and drinks? What about alcohol?

Sorry, food and drinks are not allowed inside the game rooms. If you are looking for something to eat (and/or drink) before or after your game, there are lots of restaurants just 1-3 blocks away! (Check out the “Can you recommend a place to eat nearby?” FAQ.)

Please Note: Alcohol is not permitted at our venue. Our games require all participants to remain alert and oriented — impaired cognitive and/or motor skills due to alcohol consumption will adversely affect your team’s experience and chances of success. Anyone arriving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including marijuana) will be denied admission. Smoking (cigarettes, vaporizers, cigars, etc.) is not permitted inside our venue and within 25 feet of the building’s front entrance. Guests who fail to follow the safety rules will be asked to exit the room without refund. 

Can you recommend a place to eat nearby?

Absolutely! Downtown Somerville has an amazing variety of both casual and fine dining spots – and most are just 1-3 blocks from our venue (some are as close as across the street)! We (Patrick & Kimberly, the owners) are locals – these are some of our favorite spots in town: Verve Bistro; Savor; Da Filippo; Bombay Canteen; Surf, Turf & Earth; Sweet Parlor; and Blue Sheep Bakery.

Donations & Fundraising

We’d love to help you raise funds for your non-profit organization! We prioritize supporting non-profits serving our local area: Somerville, Raritan, Hillsborough and Bridgewater. We will also consider donation requests from non-profits operating within the greater Central New Jersey area. 

Donation Request Guidelines: You’ll need to email the following information to info@ultimatexscaperooms.com.

  • your organization’s literature (mission and background)
  • event details (description, date)
  • copy of your Tax Exempt Organization Certificate (Form ST-5)

Once we receive your information, we’ll review your request through our donation process. If your request is approved, we will send you an email which will include a Gift Certificate valued at $35! (We don’t mail out donations. All donations will be emailed.)

We reserve the right to deny your request due to the large number of requests we receive. Additionally, we do not accept any mail-in or drop-off donation requests. Please email us directly to be considered for a donation.

We are a local, family-owned small business and, unfortunately, we do not have the extra staff or time to fill out donor forms as we receive an overwhelming number of donation requests for Spring and Fall fundraising events.

Weekend availability is required. Part-time schedules generally range from 10-20 hours per week. Training is provided.
Student applicants: you must have year-round availability including during school breaks. This is not a seasonal position. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
We offer paid training, venue discounts, competitive pay with the opportunity to earn tips, and a creative and collaborative work environment.
